Makes sense, You might block your teammate's line of fire or you die knifing an opponent and lost a good opportunity to turn the situation to your team's favor.

Gest wrote: no knifing rules was set during bf2 days, was about to lift it for bc2 but again it sux after the latest patch with the detection issues.it applies to tournament because;
-to prevent loss of opportunity by having the enemy noticing the approach and killing you instead
-to prevent boasting and belittling the opponent in accordance to our rules of conduct
so for bc2 - knifing is only allowed strictly on close combat - no stalking and following the enemy just to get a knife kill.
